1. The Great Professor’s Debate:

So our first event is almost around the corner and the executive has been working hard trying to organize the event. “The Great Professor’s Debate” shall be held at the Board room in the Student Center at 6:15 pm (not 6 pm) on Oct 26th (Monday). Professor Lippincott(Senior Lecturer, University Of Toronto Mississauga and Professor on Political Thought) shall be debating against Professor Jurgensen (Professor at the University of Toronto Mississauga specializing on Foreign Policy) on the issue of “Should Canada leave Afghanistan?”. The Debate shall not go for more than an hour. This is a chance for you all to get involved with the Professors on the issue and to ask questions on problems which you think are important.

There will be no entry fee and you’re free to invite your friends. As part of the audience you are eligible to ask one question at a time. Please stick to the time limit and ask questions PERTAINING TO THE TOPIC!

And of course we’ll have free food!

2. Update on Meeting Last Week

Last week we witnessed enthralling debates on both Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday we debated on the motion of “Should there be cap on the pay of executives?” Both the sides did an impressive job in presenting their arguments and all the speakers tried their level best to defend their positions. Also the fact that these arguments were prepared on the spot was something that we execs found pretty impressive. In the end it was the Liberals who won and Honorable MP Eric Madan was judged to be the best speaker. So great job guys!

On Thursday we debated on the motion of “Does Barack Hussein Obama deserve the Nobel Prize?” We divided the teams into ‘capitalists’ and ‘communists’ and we observed a stellar debate between the ‘elite bourgeoisie’(the capitalists who answered NO) and the “veteran proletariat’( the communists who answered YES). Whereas the comrades prided on defending Obama winning the award the capitalists went berserk against Obama winning the Peace Prize so soon! In the end the capitalists came out as the champions with Honorable bourgeoisie Reginald Tan being judged as the Best Speaker! You guys rock!!

We also ended the Thursday session with a group debating session on “Should Canada INVADE the United States?” It was a lot of fun and debaters left the room with an evil grin in the end! GO CANADAAAA!!!! hehe.
